This is to formally announce that the Local is holding the 596 executive and steward virtual elections GMM on April 23, 2026! The Steward body will be nominated during the GMM and sworn in. Once Stewards are formalized we will proceed to elect the executive positions. The following Executive positions are open for *nominations:
President
Vice President
Treasurer
Secretary

*Nominations: Nominations may be sent in advance of the GMM as well as nominations will be accepted on the “floor” (i.e. during the GMM). Advanced nominations can be sent via email to comms@opseulocal596.org and cc’d to OPSEU staff Julian Higuerey-Nunez email (jhiguereynunez@opseu.org). Confirmation of receipt will be made within 3 days and an opportunity to provide a brief bio will be presented to the nominee once they accept the nomination. The nominations for stewards are presently:

Presently no steward is running
Nominations can be made on the “floor” during the April 23 Elections. Members that may not succeed in one role can be nominated in the next election. The order of the executive postion election postions will be 1) President, 2) Vice President, 3) Treasurer and lastly 4) Recording Secretary.
Nomination/Campaign period: April 6th from April 17, 2026 -- advanced notification of steward intentions and executive positions.
Election day: April 23, 2026 from 6:00pm to 8:30pm
Q&A Only from: 6:00pm to 6:30pm
Voting opens after: 6:30pm and will end at 8:30pm
Information on how to vote, the agenda and the DOTS process will be forthcoming in the upcoming weeks. As always the GMM will follow Robert's Rules of Order.
